Abstract

DE LIMA SPODE, Vivian  and  MINGHELLI SCHMITT, Virgínia. Study about possible routes in the transmission of Human Herpesvirus 8. Acta bioquím. clín. latinoam. [online]. 2004, vol.38, n.4, pp.523-527. ISSN 0325-2957.

Human Herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) or Kaposi's Sarcoma-associated Herpesvirus (KSHV) has been causally linked to Kaposi's Sarcoma (KS). Sex between men may be an important route of transmission of HHV-8, once this is the main behavioral risk factor for KS in seropositive HIV patients. However, from regions of Africa where KS was detected in children even before the advent of AIDS, other routes of transmission have been suggested.

Keywords : Human Herpesvirus 8 transmission; Kaposi's Sarcoma; Kaposi's Sarcoma-associated Herpesvirus.
