Abstract

GONZALEZ, Fernanda Laura; ABRATE, Rita Catalina  and  LAURIA, María José. Determination of reference ranges for factor V of coagulation in a pediatric population. Acta bioquím. clín. latinoam. [online]. 2015, vol.49, n.3, pp.343-346. ISSN 0325-2957.

The haemostatic system varies throughout the first stages of life because of changes that happen during growth. There has been little research on reference values of coagulation factors in children and therefore, the need to investigate them. The following study is retrospective and it was conducted on 142 children up to 17 years of age that attended the hospital in which factor V (FV) values were obtained. Taking into account the 97.5th percentile, the results showed important differences in its determination. It is important that each laboratory establishes its own reference values for these tests since they cannot be extrapolated to the ones in adults. This study proves that the haemostatic system undergoes changes during infancy that have to be taken into account for the correct interpretation of the results of the tests carried out.
