Abstract

PEREZ, Mariana A. Provincial Political Power and the Federal Press in Entre Ríos: Between Subordination and Autonomy (1862-1867). Folia [online]. 2015, n.24, pp.00-00. ISSN 0325-8238.

This paper inquires into the political dynamics in Entre Ríos in the 1860’s through the study of the federal press and its connections with provincial political powers. It analyzes the discourse of two newspapers of the city of Gualeguaychú, "El Pueblo Entrerriano" and "El Porvenir" (with great influence on the provincial political arena), and the correspondence the writers held with Urquiza and other provincial political players. Insofar as they were spokesmen of federalism in Entre Ríos, both newspapers received grants and support from the provincial government and Urquiza. Yet, their discourse did not always follow Urquiza’s political guidelines, which appears as a symptom of the federal party crisis and Urquiza’s role as the undisputed leader of federalism.

Keywords : Press; Entre Ríos; Federalism; Paraguayan War.
