Abstract

CAMPIGOTO, José Adilçon; KLEIN, Rejane  and  PADILHA GALVAO, Milene Aparecida. Prosaic images, lived out regions and traditional peoples in southern Brazil (1900-2014). Folia [online]. 2016, n.25, pp.35-60. ISSN 0325-8238.

Study on the use of the concept of region to the writing of history, focusing on the faxinalenses, a category of traditional peoples living in southern Brazil. Based on the concept of practiced space, we will set the region to investigate, in this case, the experience lived by these subsistence farmers is the contact area between the ‘faxinalense’ culture and formal education. The sources that we will use will be mostly photographic images produced in field visits or scanned from photographic material given by faxinalenses. Imagery reproductions of documents already published or stored in local files will also be used. The methodology for working with photographs is to consider them as a region (or part) of a visual whole. Therefore, the whole will be related to its elements making possible an effectuation sense, that is, historical significance. In the space thus defined, since the beginning of the twentieth century until the 1930s, religious ethnic schools, and ‘societies Schools’ were practiced. They had in common the teaching of the group culture and mother tongue. The railways and shooting, shared some areas of common breeding, but also brought schools and teachers to faxinal. The comparison between images of school buildings from the present and the past allows the perception of significant changes and continuities in the landscape and daily life of the region in which the coexistence between the chamber of humans and nonhumans still begins in childhood.

Keywords : Region; Rurality; Faxinal; Education.
