Abstract

PERREN, Joaquín; CABEZAS, Sergio  and  SORIA, María Emilia. Rebuilding the urban Latin American puzzle. Some comments on a recent of Di Virgilio and Perelman. Folia [online]. 2017, n.28, pp.125-135. ISSN 0325-8238.

This communication constitutes a critical commentary on the work Latin American Cities: inequality, segregation and tolerance of María Mercedes Di Virgilio and Mariano Perelman. Recognizing this text as a relevant piece of a renewal of urban studies at the continental level, an approach is made to those mechanisms that produce, reproduce and deepen socio-territorial inequalities in metropolitan settings of varying magnitude, from regional nodes to global cities. At the same time, the path through the pages of the commented work serves as a platform to explore heuristic resources and methodological strategies capable of reconstructing contemporary urban dynamics in all its complexity. Finally, some of the strengths contained in the compilation are rescued, especially those that refer to its potential in the search for trails that allow to realize the “right to the city”.

Keywords : Inequality; Segregation; Urban Studies; Latin America.
