Abstract

MONSALVEZ ARANEDA, Danny  and  ARAVENA CONSTANZO, Yerko. Historiographycal interpretations on political violence in Chile . Folia [online]. 2018, n.32, pp.83-99. ISSN 0325-8238.  http://dx.doi.org/10.30972/fhn.0323498.

Although the existence of violence has been mentioned by Chilean historiography during a large part of the twentieth century, it is not conceptualized, deepened and addressed more systematically, but after the coup d’état of September 11, 1973. For that, the following research gives account of the main perspectives that, since that democratic breakdown, have attempted to give a historical explanation to the development of political violence in Chile. For this we highlight two major fields of historiographical analysis: I) violence as a “long-term structure”; and II) the debate on political violence starting in the second half of the 20th century in Chile
