Abstract

GONZALEZ CALLEJA, Eduardo. Actors, resources and objectives: a proposal for taxonomy of subversive political violence. Folia [online]. 2018, n.32, pp.101-120. ISSN 0325-8238.  http://dx.doi.org/10.30972/fhn.0323499.

After reviewing the most notorious attempts of classification, the text proposes a general outline of the typology of subversive political violence that is possible to contrast empirically with some of the basic theoretical features of theories of collective action. The incidence of three constitutive elements of this action is considered: the specific organization of the protagonists, their mobilization of symbolic and material resources and the rupturist objectives that they pursue. The various intersections of these three generic factors contribute to the explanation of the different strategies of subversive political violence, but these formal combinations are not sufficient to characterize them fully, since it is necessary to take into account the sociohistorical context that affects the appearance, diffusion and decline of the different experiences of violent collective action.

Keywords : Civil War; Collective action; Coup d’État; Typology.
