Abstract

ALARCON, Natalia D.. A COMPLEX FABRIC: THE ROSARIO TAXPAYERS’ PROTEST OF 1909 AMONG CORPORATIONS, POLITICS AND THE LABOR MOVEMENT. Folia [online]. 2021, n.41, pp.89-112. ISSN 0325-8238.  http://dx.doi.org/10.30972/fhn.0415160.

The aim of this article is to revisit the development of the protest of taxpayers that took place in Rosario, during 1909. The analysis of its circumstances is of particular interest since the taxpayers' movement - which initially began as a lockout to complain about the economic conditions - resulted in a politically open conflict that challenged the political system of the city and, to some extent, the province. The protest brought into play a set of social, economic and political actors, namely corporations, retailers, workers and political associations, which managed to come together in a common outcry despite being considered opposing forces at some points. The use of a variety of sources, such as the local press, the labor press, and minutes and reports of local corporations, will enable us to make a thorough analysis of the evolution of the movement and the interplay between the interests of the different participants.

Keywords : Protest; Taxpayers; Rosario; 1909.
