Abstract

CORNERO, Silvia; TISSERA, Luis  and  PASTOR, Sebastián. Pre-hispanic connections between northeast and Sierras Centrales: about a ceramic vessel from Coronda (San Jerónimo Department, Santa Fe Province, Argentina). Folia [online]. 2022, n.43, pp.7-24. ISSN 0325-8238.  http://dx.doi.org/10.30972/fhn.0435843.

This article provides an approach to the pre-Hispanic social networks of the final Late Holocene in central Argentina, by means of an analysis of the relationships between groups settled in the middle Paraná river, on the one hand, and in Sierras de Córdoba and its eastern foothills, on the other. The archaeological precedents as well as the data contained in documents from the time of the Spanish conquest are considered as a reference. The paper also emphasizes the stylistic and iconographic aspects of an unpublished, complete vessel from the Coronda area, Santa Fe province. A comparative analysis is developed from a significant database related to the tradition of clay figurines of the Sierras de Córdoba and eastern plains, considering the formal correspondences. The results state clear links between the Coronda vessel and these figurines, in particular those from the Segundo or Xanaes river area, which are also the closest to the site where the vessel was found. Finally, the article offers some alternative ideas and hypothesis that contribute to the better understanding of the connections and social ties between both regions.

Keywords : social networks; long distance; stylistic features; iconographic designs.
