Abstract

GIRBAL-BLACHA, Noemí. State, forest exploitation and investments in the Chaco Santiagueño (1880-1930). Own wealth and external profit. Folia [online]. 2022, n.44, pp.29-55. ISSN 0325-8238.  http://dx.doi.org/10.30972/fhn.0446006.

This study of historical reflection collects several years of my research on the Argentinean Northeast (NEA, according to its acronym in Spanish). It aims to characterize and interpret the organization of the territory, public policies, social actors and the economy in one of the regions that belatedly coupled to Modern Argentina driven by the positivist generation of the 80s. This region did not participate of the agreements that would lead to the organization of the National State. Through the use of qualitative and quantitative sources, the purpose is to study the situation of the Chaco Santiagueño, western subregion of the Gran Chaco Argentino. The objective is to analyze and weigh, especially, the exploitation of its natural resources, forestry and land legislation, the investments that are located there and the unstable political conditions that define its postponement, both in times of oligarchic and radical governments. The proposal is to define and understand the marginality that is generated and sustained over time, regarding the agro-export model, as well as its condition within the postponed northeastern region of the country.

Keywords : Chaco Santiagueño; Politics; Forests; Investments.
