During 1977, hundreds of families that traditionally occupied the Colonias de Ingenio, in the west of the province of Tucumán, were transferred to new military towns in the framework of the so-called “fight against subversion”. Until 1982, the Armed Forces configured an "open space" of seclusion there, through disciplinary practices and material control devices. In this article, from an ethnographic perspective, the memories of the displaced inhabitants are articulated with a series of images and maps of the time, which served to bring us closer to that repressive context of control, but above all to reconstruct "the place as it was before" the military violence. Finally, we consider the relevance of thinking to what extent violence that is not entirely visible can be processed, and how identifying oneself as a victim of injustice in the past, opens up in the present a line of economic, social and cultural rights to be guaranteed in a democratic state.
