Abstract

DEL CASTILLO, Alejandra  and  GARAY, Ana. Educational and employment situation of rural youth in Burruyacu (Tucumán, Argentina). Folia [online]. 2023, n.46, pp.89-114. ISSN 0325-8238.  http://dx.doi.org/10.30972/fhn.4605903.

This paper analyses the educational and labour conditions of young people in the rural areas of the department of Burruyacu in the light of the productive transformations in the last three decades of the 20th century. It is based on the analysis of statistical sources and documents and case studies in the towns of Villa María and Gobernador Piedrabuena.

The expansion of agricultural activities for export, and their high yields, did not generate opportunities for this segment of the population. Problems of school dropout and early entry into the labour market of young people, precarious occupations as the only possibility and migration are identified. Different responses by the state and the population itself to these problems are described.
