Abstract

ROCCHIETTI, Ana. HISTORICAL ARCHEOLOGY: AN ESSAY ON ITS OBJECT. Folia [online]. 2023, n.46, pp.159-183. ISSN 0325-8238.  http://dx.doi.org/10.30972/fhn.4606494.

The construction of the explicit object of a disciplinary field, especially during its process of autonomous formation, is often complex and not automatically supported nor systematic. Historical Archaeology could fit into this description for three reasons: 1. the reticence to history (at least in Argentina), 2. the debate about the “just” identification, 3. the choice of an acceptable conceptual matrix. My perspective is based on the aporia raised by the confrontation between the potential historical object and the sociological object and the possibility of extending the specifically archaeological results to the persistent, universalized social model that gave rise to the vestiges studied.

Keywords : Historical Archaeology; Epistemic Object; Historiographical Dimension; Sociological Dimension.
