Abstract

PICCOLI, Carolina V. et al. ARCHEOLOGICAL RESEARCH IN THE CENTER OF THE PROVINCE OF CORRIENTES: INITIAL FINDINGS OF THE PROSPECTING WORKS WITHIN THE IBERÁ SYSTEM. Folia [online]. 2023, n.46, pp.241-268. ISSN 0325-8238.  http://dx.doi.org/10.30972/fhn.4606502.

Archaeological research in the center of Corrientes province has been scarce. This paper presents the results of the archeological survey carried out in the south and southeast of the Iberá wetlands (Iberá Reserve and Iberá National Park). Eleven archaeological sites were recorded, with different density values of pottery, lithics, animal bones, human remains, and ornaments. The stratigraphic matrices of most of them are composed in general by shells. There are differences regarding soil organic carbon and soil phosphorus among the sites; pH and electrical conductivity remain neutral. The new information and older survey data confirm the high archaeological potential of this area. Three possible main path of movement were identified among the recorded sites (n=33).

Keywords : Archeological Survey; Wetlands; Shellmounds; Late Holocene.
