Abstract

SARTORI, Julieta; JIMENO, Laura Pérez  and  SERVIN, Ana Cecila. NEW EVIDENCES OF THE USE OF BONE RAW MATERIAL IN THE CENTER OF THE ALLUVIAL PLAIN OF THE MIDDLE PARANÁ RIVER - SANTA FE MARGIN-. Folia [online]. 2023, n.47, pp.213-242. ISSN 0325-8238.  http://dx.doi.org/10.30972/fhn.0476790.

The aim of this paper is to present new evidence of the use of bone raw material, recovered in excavations that have been carried out in two sites (i. e. Familia Primón and Ombú de Basualdo), located in the center-east of the Middle Paraná Alluvial Plain. In order to compare these new data with those obteined in previous works, we sought to know the variability of the bones used as support and the diversity of morpho-funcional groups, to then determine the modes of action and outline the first functional hypotheses. The results show that mammals, birds and fish were used, registering a diversity of morpho-functional groups whose uses are not limited to strict subsistence activities. At the same time, the quantity and diversity of instruments increased in an area that was characterized by a very low-null density, which substantially changes the technological panorama of this sector of the Paraná Alluvial Plain for the late Holocene, helping better to understand the role of fauna in all its complexity.

Keywords : bone technology; zooarchaeology; alluvial plain; Paraná River; Santa Fe.
