This article deals with the work of women in the Crown of Aragon and the value attributed to it by María of Castile, queen of Aragon,. The queen granted licenses to work in Medicine to women. One of the medics, Antonia de Santa Sofía, took care of the queen and the people of her house and her 354 court. Moreover, the queen employed some medicinal remedies prepared by women. I analyse how María of Castile used her authority and power to defend the work of widows in different branches of industry, such as textiles or retailing. Finally, the appreciation of the queen for some of the women that worked in the domestic sphere (handmaids, maidservants, maids, wet nurses) is discussed.
