Abstract
SGANGA, Julieta V. and ANGRISANO, Elisa B.. The genus Smicridea (Trichoptera: Hydropsychidae: Smicrideinae) in Uruguay. Rev. Soc. Entomol. Argent. [online]. 2005, vol.64, n.3, pp.131-139. ISSN 0373-5680.
ABSTRACT. Smicridea McLachlan (Trichoptera: Hydropsychidae) is the only genus of the Smicrideinae present in the Neotropical Region. Only two of the 90 species of Trichoptera recorded from Uruguay, belong to the genus Smicridea: Smicridea (Rhyacophylax) atrobasis Flint and Smicridea (Rhyacophylax) dentifera Flint. In this paper, seven species of the subgenus Smicridea (Rhyacophylax) Müller were identified from Uruguay: Smicridea (R.) coronata Flint, Smicridea (R.) discalis Flint, Smicridea (R.) mesembrina (Navás), Smicridea (R.) pampeana Flint, and Smicridea (R.) spinulosa Flint, recorded for the first time from this country; S. (R.) atrobasis; and S. (R.) dentifera, whose distribution is extended to the Paysandú and Salto Departments. Illustrations of the male genitalia of S. (R.) atrobasis, S. (R.) coronata, and S. (R.) mesembrina are provided, as well as morphological characters that were not mentioned before in the males of S. (R.) coronata and S. (R.) spinulosa. A description of the female of S. (R.) coronata, a key for the identification of the males, and distribution maps are provided.
