Abstract
DE LA TORRE MANCA, Santiago J.; DEFAGO, María T. and SALVO, Adriana. Phytophagous insects associated with palms in Córdoba city, Argentina. Rev. Soc. Entomol. Argent. [online]. 2014, vol.73, n.3-4, pp.145-154. ISSN 0373-5680.
In Córdoba city, several palm species have been used as ornamental elements in public green spaces and backyards. In this study, palms located in 25 sampling sites spread over the city were observed. Each palm was identified to species level, the occurrence of insects and damaged organs was assessed, and the percentage of herbivory was estimated. Only two phytophagous insect species significantly damaged palms in Córdoba city: Corialomela quadrimaculata (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) and Paysandisia archon (Lepidoptera: Castniidae). Geographic distribution of the C. quadrimaculata was expanded and new plant host records were provided for both insect species. Damages caused by these insects are described and host preferences in relation to host availability in the city were analyzed.
