Abstract

LONGA, Francisco. The suburb, the State administration and the mobilizations. The experience of Movimiento Evita, in a municipality of Buenos Aires (2004‐2015). Trab. soc. [online]. 2018, n.31, pp.343-363. ISSN 1514-6871.

This paper analyzes the experience of a contemporary social movement in Argentina, from the 'dilemma' raised by the academic literature about the limits and potential of integrating the State by social movements. For this, I focused on the Movimiento Evita, formed in 2004, that after a political accumulation exclusively from outside the State institutionshappened to integrate its militants to the State structure from its adherence to the presidential governmentsof Nestor Kirchner and Cristina Fernández that took place in Argentina between 2003 and 2015. This study focuses on the relationships built by the movement from the outside and from the inside of State institutions, in the municipality of San Fernando, in the north suburbs of Buenos Aires province. The article aims to transcend the binary division between inside and outside the State, to show the mixturated dynamics the movement displayed in the studied municipality, which contemplated negotiations, integrations and confrontations with the municipal State structure, from the adherence or the opposition respect of the different governments who occupied it.
