Abstract

SANTOS CORRAL, María Josefa. Assemble references: Mexican blueberry growers life in Michigan. Trab. soc. [online]. 2021, vol.22, n.37, pp.61-77.  Epub July 01, 2021. ISSN 1514-6871.

This work shows the way in which a group of Mexicans, specifically Michoacans, has managed to establish themselves as producers of blueberries in southwest Michigan. With this they are integrated into an activity for which they had no technical or social expertise. However, little by little they become integrated as a group that we could call "Mexican blueberry producers" where practices and references from Michoacán and from the North American agricultural system are combined and assembled. In the first aspect, one of the main practices is the combination of economic activities. Regarding the North American references, there is the certification and continuous preparation as agricultural producers to access into more competitive market niches.

Keywords : migrants; blueberry; ethnic entrepreneurs; farmers.
