Abstract

BERRONDO, Jimena Ramos. “Back to the mess”: the political game in the construction of family farming policies in a province in the northeast of Argentina (2012 - 2015). Trab. soc. [online]. 2021, vol.22, n.37, pp.135-150.  Epub July 01, 2021. ISSN 1514-6871.

This article analyses the links between officials, technicians and peasant organizations within the framework of family farming policies. For this, I built a case study that focuses on two dimensions: i) the political orientation promoted by the Secretaría de Agricultura Familiar (at national level) during 2012 - 2015 in a province of northern Argentina, where organizational and productive projects were fostered; and ii) the way in which the leaders of the organizations and agricultural extensionists experience and dispute these policies in a symbolic way. Within these dimensions, attention is paid to the political game that takes place between the actors to contest state discourses and to implement and adapt these policies according to the characteristics of the territory. The research is based on a qualitative methodology which consisted in extensive field work carried out with state agents and leaders of peasant organizations at the national and sub-national level.

Keywords : Organizational practices; family farming organizations; family farming and rural development policies; political game.
