Abstract

COUTINHO DOS SANTOS, Francine Helfreich  and  DA CRUZ OLIVEIRA, Bruno José. Social Work in favelas in Rio de Janeiro: introductory notes. Trab. soc. [online]. 2021, vol.22, n.37, pp.311-331.  Epub July 01, 2021. ISSN 1514-6871.

This article deals with the work of social workers in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Itpunctuates the historical trajectory of professional work, which is marked by the influence of the theoretical currents that affected the profession, as well as the elements of each historical conjuncture. Therefore, the analysis starts from the premise that the profession is directly connected to the ways in which the State produces social policies, in a country marked by dependent capitalism, which is expressed in the socioeconomic inequalities, typical of peripheral capitalist formation as in Brazil. It also presents conceptual questions about favelas, as well as the challenges of professional work and its potential.

Keywords : labor; social work; slums.
