The article delves into the works of Talcott Parsons in order to highlight the link between his views on the United States, his theory of social conflict and his hypothesis on Romanticism’s significance for Western cultural tradition. From The Social System to American Society, it tracks Parsons’ response to the political and intellectual challenges raised by the ascendance of the counterculture.
