Abstract

POL, María Albina  and  GIAMPAOLETTI, Noelia. Youth labour market insertion and labour market segmentation in the viticulture industry. The situation in Oasis Norte and Valle de Uco, Mendoza, Argentina. Trab. soc. [online]. 2021, vol.22, n.37, pp.503-525.  Epub July 01, 2021. ISSN 1514-6871.

The viticulture agro-industry provides an excellent setting for the study of the complex ways of labour organization and segmentation resulting from the incorporation of new technologies in production processes. Regarding the perspective kept in this article, labour markets are considered to be historical products located in and traversed by a social, economic, political, cultural and ecological context that alters the experiences of a generation by conditioning the processes of social structuring. It is from this perspective that we focus our attention on a particular sector of the population: young people. We aim at analyzing the traits taken into consideration in youth labour insertion in the viticulture industry in two of the socio-productive configurations in Mendoza (Argentina), Oasis Norte and Valle de Uco, in order to identify the land factors that determine such insertion. So as to achieve our goal, we carried out a qualitative-quantitative methodological strategy based on secondary statistical sources and we conducted semi-structured interviews with business examples in the industry. This strategy was aimed at collecting data that would enable us to jointly analyze the productive and labour profile of each region, the organization of the positions in the viticulture industry and the traits of the young people employed in each of them.

Keywords : Labour segmentation; Territorial approach; Youth; Viticulture agro-industry.
