Abstract

This article analyzes the life path of Nancy, a woman captain who built her career as a fishing worker during almost twenty years, sailing on ships that travel the Argentinian Sea from North to South.

From the social history of the working class with a gender perspective, this paper aims to reconstruct and investigate some traces of this woman´s experience, not because of its uniqueness, but because it enables access to a valuable analysis around the gendered of the workspace, the unequal situation of working womens -especially in the fishing factory- and the links between patriarchy and capitalism since the last decades of the 20th century and the beginning of the present.

Thus, the following pages will address Nancy's life in its complexity, restoring her in the social framework of her family, of the city in where she lived his childhood and youth, and her workspace, with the purpose of understanding how the individual is related to structures, and how mandates, symbols and inscriptions impacts in the ways of remember and mean the past.
