Abstract

GALLI, Oscar; GEYMONAT, Juan  and  MENDY, Mariana. The Uruguayan fishing complex: an exhausted model. Trab. soc. [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.38, pp.97-118.  Epub Jan 01, 2022. ISSN 1514-6871.

The present work seeks to account for the exhaustion of the Uruguayan fishing sector. To do this, we start from the context of the emergence of large-scale fisheries in Uruguay (1970s) and their subsequent performance. As aspects of this deterioration, the state of exploitation and management of fishing resources, economic-productive development, and the social aspects derived from the current model are taken as aspects. Based on the analysis of these dimensions, the aim is to provide evidence on the crisis in the sector and the exhaustion of the current exploitation model.

Keywords : fishing complex; state of exploitation; Uruguay.
