Abstract

GARINO, Delfina. Youth work trajectories: the incidence of secondary school in the itineraries. Trab. soc. [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.38, pp.337-357.  Epub Jan 01, 2022. ISSN 1514-6871.

In Argentina, as in the rest of Latin America, young people typically find greater difficulties in their labor insertion processes: they are affected by the segmentation that characterizes the general labor market and by the conditions of the youth labor market itself, always more precarious than adults’ market labor. This generates that youth´s labor insertion becomes a process that extends in time and that varies according to social class, in which youth experience entrances and exits of the job market, complicating their trajectories.

In this article, we present a typology of educational-labor trajectories of young graduates of secondary schools in Neuquén (Patagonia Argentina). It is structured on the basis of youth’s activity condition, the occupational category, the quality of the occupation and the continuation of higher studies. We also consider the preponderance of the spheres that compose them (family, educational and work) at the time of the interview. Within each type, we analyze the transitions that make up the biographical routes and the incidence of work formation in them.

Keywords : Trajectories; Work; High school; Youth.
