This article analyzes the relationship between the union leadership of the General Confederation of Labor of Argentina (CGT) and the governments of Néstor Kirchner and Cristina Fernández, and the relationship that they had with the Justicialista Party (PJ) from the post-crisis institutional recovery after 2001 and until the breakup of the CGT in 2012. There are three moments in the CGT-Kirchner governments link; of rapprochement (2003-2007), of participation in the government (2008-2010) and of rupture (2010-2012). The relationship that these leaders built in the period with the PJ was variable and ranged between trying to re-unionize the party or participating in it with their own territorial-based organizations.

The sources used for the study are two national newspapers; Pagina 12 and La Nación, documents, speechs and in-depth interviews with union leaders. From the systematic registry of the newspapers, an event chronological thread is constructed that structures the story. The interviews and other resources incorporate the meanings that these actors (individually and / or collectively) construct around the recorded events.
