Abstract

ROSSI, Carolina. Transfeminist social networks and trajectories of upward social mobility: biographical narratives of trans* and cis women of working‐class origins residing in AMBA. Trab. soc. [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.38, pp.601-623.  Epub Jan 01, 2022. ISSN 1514-6871.

The article analyzes four occupational trajectories of trans* and cis women between 25 and 55 years of age, of working-class origins living in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The purpose of this paper is to retrospectively reconstruct the events perceived by the women as moments of rupture in their lives.

The database comes from two sources: in-depth interviews with two cis women who had previously answered a random survey of 1065 cases, carried out in the AMBA in the years 2015-2016 and a snowball sampling that sought to problematize the heteronormative register by incorporating the voices of trans* women.

The study shows how transfeminist social networks and education with a non-binary gender perspective enhance the development of the capacity of agency, enabling moments of rupture with gender norms and gender violence while favoring the beginning of upward social mobility trajectories.

Keywords : gender; social class; occupational trajectories; agency; structure; communitynetworks.
