Abstract

DE MARCO, Florencia I.. Women, militancy and repression in Santiago del Estero. Sexuality as a device of social control. Trab. soc. [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.39, pp.25-39.  Epub July 01, 2022. ISSN 1514-6871.

This paper recovers part of the context in which the experiences of political organization of women in Santiago del Estero took place during the sixties and seventies, with the purpose of signifying the devices of social control used on them by the last Argentine repressive process and the difficulties in prosecuting these actions. The starting point is the idea that there is a link between militancy-repression-(in)justice that, when intertwined with the sexual order, influences these actions as well as their social and juridical evaluation.

In order to achieve the above, a qualitative method and an ethnographic approach were used to investigate with which inquiries were produced-through observations in judicial hearings and interviews- the experiences of judicial agents and former political prisoners of the last Argentine dictatorship in the province of Santiago del Estero.

The paper is organized in three sections. In the first one, there is the local political context of the sixties and seventies is briefly presented, in which women enter the militancy spaces in Santiago del Estero and where social and political projects are plotted that will later be the focus of the repression. Next, we address sexual violence as a device for social discipline on the basis of a sexual order. Finally, we retraced part of the dispute over these events in the legal proceedings for crimes against humanity in this province, where we once again find that sexual/gender structure/order tensioning the demands for transformation/social justice.
