Abstract
CARBALLO, Ignacio Esteban and GRANDES, Martín. Potential demand for financial services and entrepreneurial vocation among Building Janitors: an empirical study in the City of Buenos Aires. Trab. soc. [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.39, pp.197-218. Epub July 01, 2022. ISSN 1514-6871.
In this paper we researched the financing needs of building janitors and their level of entrepreneurial vocation. For this purpose, a stratified survey was designed and implemented on 301 building janitors who were employed in 18 neighborhoods of the City of Buenos Aires. The purpose was to find evidence of their entrepreneurial dimensions and their propensity to take out loans to finance other activities outside the main one in the buildings where they work. Our results show that: (a) numerous janitors have skills to perform more than one trade or independent remunerated activity; b) one out of every three respondents showed interest in getting into debt in order to carry out the activity for which they have previous skills or knowledge, and one out of every four was interested in getting into debt for new productive enterprises in general; c) more than half would like to get into debt to buy or renovate a house, indicating an important complementarity between housing security and secondary productive activity, and d) a substantial proportion would become indebted to the Union if it were to offer them microcredits.
