Abstract

MORENO, Manuela  and  LIAUDAT, María Dolores. Between employers and workers. The transformations of management workers in the current stage of pampean agrarian capitalism. Trab. soc. [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.39, pp.265-290.  Epub July 01, 2022. ISSN 1514-6871.

The aim of this paper is to research an actor who has a key role in the sector value production but is scarcely mentioned in agrarian social studies: the management workers. Specifically, within the context of the agribusiness introduction in the Pampas region, it seeks to identify the changes in three aspects linked to these workers: the relevance and complexity of management positions, the profiles and trajectories of those who occupy the positions of command, and the functions that these workers are in charge of. To develop the objective, the first part of the article briefly defines the management work and the main positions that were historically demanded in the pampa´s agriculture. In the second, the transformation of labour and management workers in the different agricultural companies is addressed from the advancement of agribusiness production logics. Finally, it reflects on the importance of putting the focus of analysis on this type of actor in today's agriculture. The study is based on a qualitative approach based on interviews with management workers of different profiles companies and other agricultural actors in Buenos Aires counties (Argentina), and is complemented by the incorporation of data from the national agricultural censuses.
