Abstract

CASTRO, Cecilia. Labor relations and work organization in the worlds of children's birthday celebrations in the city of Córdoba, Argentina. Trab. soc. [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.39, pp.373-391.  Epub July 01, 2022. ISSN 1514-6871.

Within the context of expansion of the entertainment market and the outsourcing of family events, we conducted an ethnographic work during 2012 and 2017 in a network of agents who worked in a cooperative and competitive mannerbycommercially producing boys' and girls' birthday celebrations in venues in the city of Córdoba. In this article, we delve into the working career of male and female entrepreneurs in the field of children's birthday parties. This career was organized around three positions: male and female owners, female manager, and male and female entertainers. Through the description and analysis of each activity, we show the way in which subjects constructed themselves as professionals by drawing boundaries with male and female improvisers. In this process, gender differences were reinstated reestablishing inequalities in the possibility of projecting themselves under the imperatives of professionalism.

Keywords : children's birthdays; employment; gender; entrepreneurship.
