Abstract

MELOTTO, Mariano; VIDELA, María Victoria; GARRIGA ZUCAL, José  and  VAN AERT, Peter. “A swiss army knife”: meanings and practices around the job of park rangers in Tierra del Fuego National Park. Trab. soc. [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.39, pp.393-414.  Epub July 01, 2022. ISSN 1514-6871.

This paper analyses the construction of a professional identity among park rangers. Starting from a qualitative approach among the park rangers of Tierra del Fuego National Park, located in the homonymous argentine province, we reflect on the constitution of professional identity. Interviews and participant observation have been conducted to inquire about what these professionals do, how they represent their job and their particular environment and how they articulate the construction of their identity. Identities that, although they share meanings about the being and doing of the park rangers, are nonetheless heterogeneous, changing and flexible.

Keywords : park ranger; profession; identity; nature.
