Abstract
FRIAS, Pamela; CORICA, Agustina and STECHER, Antonio. Shared ideals, opposing conditions: Subjective link to work in two groups of young workers in the retail industry in Chile. Trab. soc. [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.39, pp.455-485. Epub July 01, 2022. ISSN 1514-6871.
The question about the modalities of subjective bond of young people towards work constitutes a topic of interest for the social sciences. The transformations of the world of work experienced in recent decades are expressed in insertions, titrations and future projections, axes that allow us to understand the modalities of subjective bond of young people towards work. The contribution of this article lies in highlighting both, the aspects shared by young people as a generation and, at the same time, those aspects that differentiate them based on their structural and sociocultural conditions.
Considering that the retail industry massively employs young people of different occupational and qualification levels, this work is committed to investigating empirically, within a specific industry, the common and different modalities of subjective link to work, comparing the experiences of two youth collectives.
From a narrative approach, we deepen on 4 narratives of young people, which, although they reveal a certain homogeneity in the cultural and ideal orientations that they share, acquire specific forms in different contexts and working conditions, within the same industry.
