Abstract

SCODELLER, Gabriela. The winding path towards union management in SEGBA in light of the training process of its workers (1958-1976). Trab. soc. [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.39, pp.507-528.  Epub July 01, 2022. ISSN 1514-6871.

The article observes how “self-management” of the state-owned company Servicios Eléctricos del Gran Buenos Aires (SEGBA) launched between 1973 and 1976, was conceived and sustained in a systematic process of socio-technical and political training promoted by the Luz y Fuerza Capital Federal Union for its workers and cadres, which can be traced back to the early sixties and whose axis was the demand for union participation in the design and execution of public policies. We analyze the route towards this experience of union management, the conceptions, instruments, contents and forms displayed at the different training instances implemented by the union, as well as the discordances between statements of democratization of power and the final orientation that the so called selfmanagement practice took. The case is far from the most resounding examples of labor conflict in the period, allowing us to reflect on the ways of approaching the question of how power dispute has been thought within the labor and union space.
