Abstract

MALDONADO, Noemí. Emotions in the social organisation of care. A case study on the migratory circulation from Río Hondo to Mar del Plata. Trab. soc. [online]. 2023, vol.24, n.40, pp.413-424.  Epub Jan 01, 2023. ISSN 1514-6871.

Since the mid-twentieth century, families from the Río Hondo department, in the province of Santiago del Estero, have adopted seasonal migrations that combine labor stays in the sugar cane harvest in Tucumán and work in services associated with tourism in Mar del Plata. The seasonal complementarity between both markets promoted labor circulation as part of the repertoire of family life and reproduction strategies.

The growing incorporation of women into the labor market, and the unequal distribution of care responsibilities, in the case of women mothers, require the support of an intrafamily care network, generally feminized.

In this article I propose, based on the case study of a migrant family in the interior of the province of Santiago del Estero, to describe practices and meanings constructed by the children around care, in contexts of labor circulation. From the biographical interview, I try to reconstruct the impact that this type of mobility has on family life.
