Abstract

COSCIA, Vanesa  and  UCAR, Agustín. Configurations of labour in platform economies: an analysis of media representations in Argentina. Trab. soc. [online]. 2024, vol.25, n.42, pp.217-232.  Epub Jan 01, 2024. ISSN 1514-6871.

This study analyzes the media representations of the labour universe in the so-called platform economy, through the analysis of a group of news published in the second most read newspaper in Argentina, La Nación, in its section called Jobs, during 2017-2018, a period that coincides with a moment of increase XXL of neoliberal policies in Argentina.

To develop this study, a qualitative approach is used to identify the processes of news construction and the social meanings that circulate, on the one hand, in the configuration of the platform economy as a synonym of progress and, on the other hand, in the presentation of the platform worker as "independent" or "chief of self". Furthermore, the representations on trade union activity in the sector will be analyzed.

Keywords : Media representations; La Nación newspaper; Platform economies; labour precarity; neoliberalism.
