This article analyzes the land policy of the governments of the province of Chaco (Argentina) in the period from 1953 to 1983. During that period, the State still had legal ownership of extensive areas, although a large part of them were already occupied. In the official agenda, the administration of public land represented a decisive instrument to overcome the crisis that the provincial agrarian sector was going through. The fundamental issues addressed were the regularization of tenure, parcel reorganization and the expansion of the agricultural frontier. Through the analysis of the information obtained from the Chaco Colonization Institute and official publications, the projects and actions related to the management of public lands are examined.
