Abstract
MENDONCA, Mariana. An approach to institutional strategies deployed to achieve students perma- nence in the new universities of the Buenos Aires suburbs (2009-2016). Espac. blanco, Ser. indagaciones [online]. 2021, vol.31, n.2, pp.275-286. ISSN 1515-9485. http://dx.doi.org/10.37177/unicen/eb31-301.
Between 2007 and 2016, 18 new universities were created in the Argentine territory. The search for “social inclusion”, equality, equity, quality and relevance shaped this policy. One of its main objectives was to expand access for previously excluded social sectors, which led to the need to design and implement various strategies to support it. In this paper we aim to analyze the different strategies deployed by the new universities in the Buenos Aires suburbs to improve retention rates and reduce dropout rates. We consider that there is a wide variety of actions that the universities implement that exceed the curricular mentoring, strengthen the link between the student and the institution and seeks to prevent early dropout´s. To this end, we will work with primary and secondary sources, including interviews and surveys conducted with members of the academic community.
