The present work aims to recover and systematize different approaches to address the category of citizenship as a center of inquiries within the framework of the school question at the secondary level. With the specificities of each approach, the studies surveyed can be subsumed into two axes concerning the construction of citizenship: (I) the governmental proposals expressed in the curricular developments promoted by the State with the institutional and teaching mediations and (II) the perceptions and youth practices; that is, the youth political meanings and practices constitutive of the school experience and civic education in secondary school. Both axes, whether from a historical or contemporary perspective, explore the complexity of the phenomenon of citizenship construction and consider the multiple dimensions that run through it. An attempt will be made to account for the different theoretical approaches developed in educational research in Argentina in order to prefigure possible perspectives for analysis.
