Triiliks. branchcs and fruits of apple and peach plant grown at the central-east área of the Santa Fe provinee, shovved cancers which caused the drying of the affected organ. The aims of this work were to identify the causal agent of the plant disease and to describe its syniptoms on apple plant. Periodieals samplings were carried out to collect branches and affected fruits from three eommercial orchard. In the isolation was observed the colonies development. with pycnidias contuining conidias from 22.6)j to 26¡j x 5 a 6 u. The uscomas from the infected bark were of black color, with lengthened and clávate aséis, and elliptic or fusoid. hyaline ascospores of 28.6 ± 2 ,1 u x 13.3 ± 1,7 u. Healthy branches were inoculated and sealed with sterile paraffin and placed in a humid chamber. All the inoculated branches shovved an increase of the surface of the lesión, while the control remained without alteration. The pathogenity test and the re-isolations conllrmed the identification of Botryosphaería dothidea (Moug.). The most common symptoms consisted ol'wide and deep cankers on branches and the trunk, that later caused the death of the plant organ and the whole tree. In Argentina, was identified in bluebeny and grapevine. However, it is the first reported of Botryosphaería dothidea (Moug.) in apple and peach.
