Abstract

CAMACHO, Horacio H. Participation of the Eng. Enrique M. Hermitte and the Dirección General de Minas, Geología e Hidrología to the early development of the Argentinean geologists. Ser. correl. geol. [online]. 2008, n.24, pp.103-108. ISSN 1666-9479.

During the first half of the 20th century, the pioneer Argentinean geologists graduated from the Universidad de Buenos Aires thanks to the efficaceous performance carried out by the Engineer Enrique M. Hermitte (1871-1955). As the Director of the Dirección General de Minas, Geología e Hidrología (DGMGH) and Professor at the Universidad de Buenos Aires, Hermitte ellaborated a plan to promote the inclusion of advance university students into the DGMGH, in order to take advantage of the knowledge and qualify experience of the European geologists that worked by then in that institution. The success of this carefully designed development was strictly possible due to Hermitte's efforts, since no official resolution neither any other kind of agreement intending to bring a solution to the absence of native geological-minning researchers, never throve between both institutions.

Keywords : E. M. Hermitte; General Direction of Mines, Geology and Hydrology; early university geologists; Buenos Aires University.
