Abstract

SOLIZ, Andrés Alejandro; AZAREVICH, Vanina L. LÓPEZ DE; AZAREVICH, Miguel B.  and  ALONSO, Ricardo N.. THE GEOHERITAGE OF THE MONTENIEVA CREEK, CALCHAQUÍ VALLEY, SALTA PROVINCE. Ser. correl. geol. [online]. 2021, vol.37, n.2, pp.21-30. ISSN 1666-9479.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.5544546.

The Montenieva creek offers the necessary conditions for the study of the geology of the western margin of the Salta Group basin, and the foreland basin of the Payogastilla Group. Despite having developed numerous studies of stratigraphy, structural geology and neotectonics, it lacks specific studies on its geomorphology and its geological heritage. This work seeks to evaluate and make known the geological heritage of the Montenieva creek, located at the southern end of the Eastern Cordillera of Argentina, covering its accessibility, scenery value, cultural value, functional value, scientific value and state of conservation. As there is no particular adapted methodology to the Calchaquí Valley and the scale of work, a new methodology was designed that is not only suitable for the study area, but also offers the evaluation of sufficient criteria to be used throughout the territory of Eastern Cordillera in particular and to the Argentine Republic in general.

Keywords : geoheritage; Montenieva creek; Acsibi caves; CalchaquíValley; geoconservation.
