Abstract

BOITO, G.T.; ORNAGHI, J. A.; GIUGGIA, J. A.  and  GIOVANINI, D.. First report of two species of insects on peanut crop (Arachis hypogaea L.) in Córdoba, Argentina. Agriscientia [online]. 2006, vol.23, n.2, pp.99-103. ISSN 1668-298X.

Argentina is among the main exporters of peanut and the principal production area is located in Cordoba province. This crop was monitored between 2002 and 2005 years in Charras and General Deheza to detect potentially damaging insects. In this communication, Anomala testaceipennis Blanchard (Coleoptera-Melolonthidae- Rutelinae-Anomalini) and Caliothrips phaseoli Hood (Thysanoptera-Thripidae- Panchaetothripinae) are reported for the first time causing damage on peanut (Arachis hypogaea) in Cordoba, Argentina. The immature stages of the A. testaceipennis were identified through its morphologic characteristics, mainly of the abdominal extreme (raster), and the adults of both species were identified through the use of specialized taxonomy keys. Due to the importance of the quality of the commercialized product it is necessary to quantify the damage caused for these insects and to determine if it affects the crop production economically.
