Abstract

Based on the complaint sent to the television channel Telefe intimating to remove from schedule the sketch "La Nena" within twenty-four hours, which argued that the sketch "promotes bullying and child sexual abuse" and "promotes pedophilia" - this article seeks to explore the current state of cultural criticism on gender and sexualities in Argentina Our initial diagnosis is that the hegemonic perspectives on the relationship between cultural industries and audiences, especially "media" and "women" are what we call “dumbing” and “victimization”. That is, women are "victims" when they are represented in mass culture and "dumbs" when the consumed it. Our main concern is that this starting point generally appears as unquestionable. We will interrogate this perspectives regarding what ideas about gender and sexuality support their hypothesis?, what subject positions are enabled or occluded?, what is the role the state should play in these cases?
