Abstract

VEZUB, Julio. Redes comerciales del país de las manzanas: A propósito del pensamiento estructural de Guillermo Madrazo. Andes [online]. 2005, n.16, pp.167-198. ISSN 1668-8090.

This article proposes a reflection upon the theoretical effects of the structural thought and the economic categories produced by Guillermo Madrazo, for a social space different from the one for which he formulated them during his worthy intellectual life. At the intersection of two landmarks of his historiographic production -his 1981 work on the inter- and intra- exchanges in Puna and his last proposals related to the historic interpretation of the actors' subjectivity- are Madrazo's contributions to understand the morphology of the commercial networks of País de las Manzanas, and the material and symbolic relations in the frontier societies of Northern Patagonia during the decades before the Argentine territorial expansion. Starting from the interpretation of the documented corpus generated by cacique Valentín Saygüeque's writers, this article analyses the indigenous and mestizo representations of the economic practices, wondering upon the "ethnic" condition of the exchanges and upon the character of the wealth of the great úlmenes of the second half of the 19th century.

Keywords : Interethnic relationships; Patagonia; 19th century; Saygüeque.
