Abstract

MAURO, Diego A.. Catholics in the Profane Press: Nueva época in view of the Liberal Reformism,  Santa Fe, 1920-1923. Andes [online]. 2008, n.19, pp.93-117. ISSN 1668-8090.

The present work is placed in the context of the reform process of the Santa Fe's Constitutional Letter around 1921. The reformist process of liberal and laicist orientation drove into a direct confrontation with the Catholic Church, confrontation that penetrated the parties' identities. Catholics and Liberals demonstrated in the streets of Santa Fe and transformed the press into one of their battle fields. In this article we will analyze the strategy followed by the Catholic publicists and columnists in their work in the newspaper Nueva Época between 1920 and 1923. Their participation in this paper allowed them to lead with success some debates against the reform defenders and also project their positions beyond the Catholic circuits.

Keywords : Catholicism; Laicism; Press; Catholic Intellectuals.
