Abstract

MERCURI, Cecilia. Approach to the Study of Social Interaction Networks During Early Period: Differences and similarities in San Antonio de los Cobres Valley, Puna of Salta. Andes [online]. 2009, vol.20, n.1. ISSN 1668-8090.

Within the framework of the project Social Interaction Networks during Early Period in puna of Salta, this paper presents an analysis of lithic assemblages from San Antonio de los Cobres (SAC) valley, Salta’s puna, dated around 2000 BP. The analysis was oriented towards the characterization of the assemblages considering as departing point the presence and use of non local raw material to be able to compare the observed patterns and discuss about interaction networks in early moments. In this primary approach it is observed that there are shared features as well as radical differences between assemblages regarding the use given to non local raw materials. It is also present a hypothesis that may explain this pattern within the context of early interactions in San Antonio de los Cobres valley.

Keywords : Lithic assemblages; Raw material; Puna; Early Period.
