Abstract

OSATINSKY, Ariel. The unequal impact of the economic transformations in Catamarca and Tucumán (1980-2002. Andes [online]. 2013, vol.24, n.2, pp.00-00. ISSN 1668-8090.

In the Northwest of Argentina, Catamarca and Tucumán are two provinces that are particularly interesting to analyze. The first one, with a more reduced and traditional productive structure, showed, at the beginning of the XXIst century, the smallest rate of poverty in the North of the country, while the second one, although it had the most developed economy in the region, presented higher levels of poverty. Taking into account that a strong tie exists between poverty and economy, and considering that the economic transformations did not happen with a similar pace, and did not produce the same effect on the different provinces, this research analyses the evolution and the characteristics which had the productive structures of Catamarca and Tucumán between 1980 and 2002. In particular, the changes in agriculture activities, industry, commerce and services of both provinces are examined.

Keywords : Economy; Dissimilar transformations; Catamarca; Tucumán.
